Freighters and Frigates explained - what are Frigates and Freighters how do they work in No Man's Sky?
Freighters, and their new companions the Frigates, are special spacecraft you can now own for yourself in No Man's Sky, that can be used to complete missions for you to earn resources and money, or to just store anything you want to stash away for a rainy day.
Freighters explained
Like all things in No Man's Sky these days, Freighters are ranked in terms of quality, from S at the top, down to A, B, and C Class. They come in various sizs, up to 48 slots in the main inventory - the first one you get is randomly sized - and are generally found floating around in space.
The main purpose of a Freighter is to use it as a mobile base of operations. You can build base objects on board, run expeditions to get resources, host a farm of your own on board so you can have a continuous stream of income, and use it for storage. They're easily summoned (down on the D-pad on consoles and then select it from the menu), so essentially it's a whopping great storage unit and base that follows you wherever you go - neat!

Frigates explained
Frigates are smaller support craft that hang around your Freighter. These are the things you actually send on missions from your Freighter's command room (there's a tutorial that runs you through all the essentials for this when you first get your free Freighter), and again they come in various degress of quality.
Expeditions are fairly hands-off - that's sort of the point of them - but the main thing to know is that the more Frigates you have, the better their chances of success, and likewise the more expeditions you can run at the same time.
